Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has urged Marcus Rashford to leave Old Trafford, saying he “would love to see him in a better team”.
Schweinsteiger was at Manchester United when Rashford made his breakthrough into the first team under Louis van Gaal in 2016. Rashford scored two goals in his debut match against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League.
Since then, Rashford has played in nearly 400 matches for Manchester United and secured a lucrative new deal last year after a successful season where he scored 30 goals in various competitions.

Yet, Rashford has encountered difficulties in his performance this season and there have been rumors of him considering a departure from Manchester United—a move Schweinsteiger thinks could benefit him.
“I would love to see him [Marcus Rashford] in a better team, where he gets the balls in the right moment,” he said on The Overlap, brought to you by SkyBet.
“I would love to see that because in the years past, you don’t really see that, so if he would play for a different team, maybe he would also increase his level a little bit more. He’s still the player who can decide the games, but he doesn’t show it too many times because maybe inside he’s a little bit frustrated.
“First, he has to understand he can also be the example – you can handle frustration differently – but someone needs to tell him and speak with him. It has to come from him, that’s very important.
“Sometimes you have these coaches who tell you, stay left, stay right, but you need to understand, if you play for Pep Guardiola, you need to understand what he wants and then you have to do it.
“You cannot just go to someone and say, ‘Hey, run faster’, you need to help him, and he needs to understand why.”
Schweinsteiger isn’t the sole former teammate of Rashford advocating for his departure from United. Wayne Rooney has also hinted that it might be time for Rashford to seek a “fresh start.”

“He has had a very difficult season,” Rooney told Premier League Productions. “We all know he has got the ability and got all the attributes to be a top world-class player. That’s the frustrating thing. Last season, he went and scored a lot of goals. But this season, he hasn’t kicked on.
“He doesn’t look happy when he is playing. You wonder, is his best option to move away from the club and have a fresh start? But he is a Manchester lad. I would love to see him get his career back on track at the club, go on to score goals and try to help the club win trophies.”
