Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has identified Liverpool as his team’s primary English rivals, overlooking last season’s title race contenders, Arsenal.
Guardiola emphasized that the Reds will always be his most significant rivals, even ahead of Arsenal, who were in the title race last season.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Guardiola stated, “Throughout my career in England, Liverpool will have been and will continue to be our main rival.”
When questioned about Arsenal’s standing in the ranking, Guardiola added, “Now, they are beginning to establish themselves as contenders, as they did last season. However, before that, they weren’t on the same level, particularly in terms of winning FA Cups and titles. They were not involved in the Champions League for many years. This is the first season they’ve been part of it in quite some time. So, Liverpool has consistently been our primary rivals. Nevertheless, Arsenal has now emerged as strong contenders, along with Newcastle and other teams.”
