Former Manchester United star Steve Bruce believes Marcus Rashford ‘needs to have a word with himself’ after his ‘petulant’ display in the defeat to Newcastle United.
Erik ten Hag’s team suffered a 1-0 loss at St James’ Park on Saturday night, but, truthfully, the scoreline didn’t accurately reflect the game as the visitors were outplayed throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Rashford, especially, had a challenging night in the north-east. With only two goals this season, his difficulties persisted last night. He was substituted at the hour mark, appearing visibly frustrated as he took a seat among the substitutes on the bench.
Despite scoring 30 goals in the previous season, Rashford has struggled to replicate that form this term. Nevertheless, ten Hag has pledged to support his out-of-form star.
Steve Bruce, a former United defender with three Premier League titles at Old Trafford and a two-year managerial stint at Newcastle, expressed worry about Rashford’s demeanor on Saturday night.

‘The body language of some of the players doesn’t look right,’ Bruce told Stadium Astro.
‘We’ve been talking now and the first one you look at is why all of a sudden Marcus Rashford, after how good he was, how good he played for England a few weeks ago, [has gone] to what you see now.
‘Is he not happy playing on the right, what is wrong? We aren’t going to know what has happened behind the scenes if anything has happened.
‘When he comes off, he shows that petulance, he is not happy. I think he needs to have a look at himself, to start with.
‘It’s not just him, you look through the nucleus of the side and they have been blown away by Newcastle. That is the worry.’
In the past four games, Rashford has been deployed on the right side of the attack, while Alejandro Garnacho has been favored on the left.
Manchester United now welcome Chelsea on 6th Wednesday to Old Trafford.
