UEFA confirm Belgium’s Euro 2024 qualifier with Sweden will not be replayed

UEFA has declared that the Euro 2024 qualifier between Belgium and Sweden, which was halted at half-time due to a shooting incident in Brussels, will not be rescheduled. The match was tied at 1-1 when it was abandoned due to security concerns.

As per UEFA’s ruling, the score at half-time will be considered final, and each team will be granted one point. UEFA also confirmed that any suspensions and single yellow cards from the game will stand.

The decision was made because it was deemed impossible to complete the remaining part of the match the following day. Both the Royal Belgian Football Association and the Swedish Football Association expressed their mutual agreement not to resume the match and to accept the 1-1 score at half-time as the final result.

This result has no bearing on the qualification status of Group F, as Belgium has already secured their spot in the UEFA EURO 2024 final tournament, along with Austria, while Sweden has been mathematically eliminated.

The scheduling of the respective fixtures does not permit the use of a date in the upcoming November international window, which is when the preliminary group stage of the competition must be concluded, followed by the play-off draw and final tournament draw.

Tragically, two Swedish fans lost their lives, and another was seriously injured during the terror attack in Brussels. The attacker was subsequently shot and neutralized by the Brussels police at a cafe in the Schaerbeek neighborhood.
