Erik ten Hag is plotting showdown talks with struggling Manchester United star Marcus Rashford after his poor performance against Newcastle.

Rashford was substituted during the second half as the Red Devils endured a 1-0 loss at St James’ Park last Saturday.

Paul Scholes, a United legend, criticized Rashford for his performance at Newcastle, prompting Ten Hag to schedule a private discussion with the player due to his poor form.

‘I will talk to him and not the media,’ Ten Hag said about Rashford in his post-match interview on TNT Sports.

Reflecting more generally on United’s loss, Erik Ten Hag added: ‘We had a tough first half and said at half-time we were pleased to be in the game.

‘We had a good comeback in the last part of the game. We will talk tomorrow with the team about it.

‘We go back, we will talk about this and move in to Wednesday. As I said, I will talk with my team.

‘We had some chances. We thought we scored a goal but it was offside. We could have scored.

‘This team is resilient. We have seen it after (Manchester) City. We had a bad defeat and we stick together. We have a plan and we keep going.’

On Saturday, Manchester United endured a detrimental 1-0 loss against Newcastle United, delivering a subpar performance at St James’ Park.

Although Newcastle controlled the first half, they couldn’t score, and it was Anthony Gordon who rightfully secured the victory in the second half. He achieved a notable feat, becoming the first English player since Alan Shearer to score in four consecutive home games for the club.

The outcome signifies Newcastle’s climb over Erik ten Hag’s team in the Premier League standings, advancing from seventh to fifth. Meanwhile, United has slipped from sixth to seventh place.

United will look to get back to winning ways when they host Chelsea on Wednesday while Newcastle return to action with a trip to Everton on Thursday.
