It has been revealed what Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood said to get himself sent off in the La Liga clash between Getafe and Rayo Vallecano.

Greenwood received a straight red card on Tuesday night for dissent while his team suffered a 2-0 defeat at home.

The English player joined Getafe on a season-long loan from United in August after an internal club investigation into his behavior.

This followed the dropping of charges, including attempted rape, assault, and coercive control against the striker in February, following his arrest the previous year.

Having embarked on a season-long loan with Getafe, Greenwood has displayed consistent performance after being away from the pitch for 18 months. In his initial 16 appearances for the Spanish side, he managed to score five goals and contribute four assists.

However, in the 50th minute on Tuesday, he received his inaugural red card for the club for using offensive language towards referee Jorge Figueroa Vasquez.

‘In the 50th minute the player (12) Greenwood, Mason Will John, was sent off for the following reason: For addressing me in a sign of protest and raising his arm, in the following terms: “F*** you”,’ read the the official’s post-match report.

‘Once sent off, he takes the finger to the temple making a repeated gesture as a sign of disagreement with the decision made.’

Greenwood, however, has maintained that he was expressing frustration by saying ‘F***’s sake!’ and not directing any swearing at the referee.

Meanwhile, there are reports indicating that the 22-year-old has garnered attention for a potential transfer from both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
