Antoine Griezmann has played down speculation linking with a sensational January transfer to Manchester United.

The seasoned French player almost joined Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho‘s management but opted for Barcelona after leaving Atletico Madrid. Griezmann faced challenges at Camp Nou before making a successful comeback to Atletico, becoming a vital part of Diego Simeone’s revamped squad.

Manchester United is now eager to enhance their attacking options in January, seeking an experienced and versatile player to support Rasmus Hojlund.

The Atalanta recruit, secured for £72 million in the summer, has netted five goals in European matches but has yet to score in the Premier League, enduring a goalless streak spanning nine games. Despite the loan addition of Wout Weghorst last January to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United’s budget constraints are expected to persist for manager Ten Hag in the upcoming transfer window, even with the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the financial boost the new investor brings.

Despite renewed speculation linking him to a move to England, Antoine Griezmann seems uninterested in departing Atletico during the current season. He remains dedicated to the Spanish club and has no apparent plans to leave, at least until the summer.

He told Marca: ‘I’ve to earn myself to be a legend in this club. That’s my mission.

‘By 2024 I want to bring joy to the fans and some title for Atlético. It would be a dream.

Ten Hag, in the meantime, downplayed the notion that he has had a falling out with Raphael Varane, the former France teammate of Griezmann. Varane has been rumored to be considering a transfer to Bayern Munich following his displacement from the starting lineup by Harry Maguire at United.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game against Everton, Ten Hag said: ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about. There is internal competition, when you have to decide on two players who are brilliant.

‘Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane, you have to make a decision.’
