Donny van de Beek has provided on update on his Manchester United future and has suggested that he may look to leave in the January transfer window.

The Red Devils were eager to offload the midfielder during the summer after Erik ten Hag indicated that he wouldn’t have a significant role at United this season. Van de Beek has only featured twice for United, accumulating a mere 21 minutes of play, mostly in the Carabao Cup. His position at Old Trafford has further declined with the arrivals of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat.

He has now suggested that he may look to leave in January and said: ‘I need to play on regular basis… if not at Man United, it will be at another club.

Van de Beek is quoted by The Mirror as saying: “I am bouncing to play matches again. The manager is making different choices now. We have a big squad and I am not the only one knocking on the door. We’ll see in January what happens. I need to start playing games very soon – if not at Man United then at another club. I think I have to be ambitious. I have always been a lover of the game. I am absolutely crazy about football. I earn a good living at United, but money is not my motivation. I want to enjoy my work every day.”

United acquired Van de Beek from Ajax in 2020 for a base fee of £34.6m along with £4.4m in add-ons. However, his performance has been largely challenging, contributing only two goals and two assists in a total of 62 games.

United agreed to a loan proposal from French club Lorient for Donny Van de Beek in the summer, but the agreement collapsed. The 26-year-old had a loan spell at Everton in the 2021-22 season, but he didn’t make a significant impact at Goodison Park. Despite rumors connecting him to Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, Van de Beek remains contracted with United until the summer of 2025.
